“The Leopard" (Panthera pardus), the last theme
in the Big 5 series. Leopards are much more at home in trees than any other African cat and
a leopard draped along a bough is a familiar picture. A leopard’s ability to
hoist a carcass weighting 50 kilograms up a vertical tree trunk is testimony to
its enormous strength. Leopards are found in all sorts of habitats except true
deserts, and even there, they can penetrate along watercourses. Their
versatility makes them more secure than the cheetahs and lions.
The common obverse depicts the head of a growling leopard.
